Centers of Support for Orphanage Graduates (CarePoints)
The Centers (CarePoints) provide support for graduates of orphanages and other types of alternative care including foster families. During the school year students attend life skills classes in computer science, cooking, crafts, moral and physical health, job search, self-employment skills, career selection, etc. They learn about applicable laws, their rights, and how to exercise these rights. Individual and group consultations with psychologists and social workers are held for participants of the program.
Goal: to provide psychological, legal, and social support to graduates of orphanages and other types of alternative care in the transition period from residential dependency to independent life.
Program Objectives:
- social, psychological, medical, and educational support for graduates of orphanages during their adjustment period to the new conditions of independent life.
- mastering social and household skills in practical life by the graduates;
- teaching moral and ethical norms, moral values;
- providing legal knowledge and skills of legal normativity; civil liability;
- discovering the gifts and talents of older orphans, teaching them ways for self-realization;
- creating an atmosphere for the development of the personal potential of orphans;
- teaching healthy lifestyle skills;
- creating a rehabilitation environment for effective social adjustment.
In 2019, the centers continued their ongoing work in 3 regions of the Russian Federation (Vladimir, Kostroma, and Kirov). During this time, 325 graduates of orphanages came to the centers during the year, taking part in clubs, seminars, trainings and other group classes (9,064 visits). 41 graduates received assistance in difficult life situations (housing problems, income below minimum wage, temporary disability, etc.). 274 graduates of orphanages received direct assistance in solving social, medical and psychological problems.
